Compass Love, 2019
Acrylic painting and ultra-chrome inks on canvas
I still don’t get why Earth is magnetised. The most widely accepted theory insists on the phenomenon that begins at Earth's centre in its nickel and iron core. The dynamo effect theory, which explains the origin of Earth’s main magnetic field in terms of a self-exciting/sustaining effect, suggests that these liquid metals flow in spiral currents due to Earth's rotation. But I don’t believe that. Nor do I believe in the theory of gravity. Or any principle of quantum physics. I believe in a mystical compass needle that aligns with a voice—a voice that is not mortal.
