Who am I?, 1998

Performance

"Who am I?" is a confession and an inquiry into how memory works. My academic journal entries, experiences with mystical visions, and my fears reframed and reinterpreted through an approach that considers the whole person—mind, body, and soul—are all collected into a book, audio recorded, and used to create performances for a range of audiences in a variety of settings. The book is, above all, performative. The first performance was in a professional recording studio, where I read the book aloud to a small audience. The audiotape was played in public and private spaces over the next few months. My interest was in eliciting confessions from the public.
